The Evaporator Core sits inside the Heater A/C case located under the dash behind the glove box (in 90%) of all vehicles and is directly in the cabin fresh air flow in all vehicles that air eventually comes out of the vents and into the air that you breathe while driving. As the Refrigerant (Freon) leaks from the system the blower sends it directly to you and your passengers.

The air we breathe is composed of  21% Oxygen and 78% Nitrogen, but no Freon what-so-ever. This can attribute to allergies, nausea, blurred vision, headaches and I'm sure various other symptoms that usually go undiagnosed by the medical profession.

This leak is usually very small and cannot be found by the untrained, or poorly equipped mechanic and, or shop. The equipment needed is expensive, sophisticated and takes years of training to utilize properly. In most cases the vehicle's A/C system is just recharged and you are sent on your way. I have the proper equipment, training, expertise and experience to find this and any other Automotive Air Conditioning Leak.

Re: Evaporator Core Leaks

When I was getting my oil changed, I was offered a freon recharge. Is this service even necessary? How does the tech know that my freon is low? If my freon is low, does this automatically mean that I need to replace the evaporator core?

Re: Evaporator Core Leaks

Henry,No a freon recharge is not necessary, freon does not wear out, or dissipate. A properly working A/C System either leaks out of the system, or can become contaminated from an internal compressor failure. No technician can determine if any system is low by simply looking, or reading the working and or static pressures, unless the system is completely empty. The refrigerant must be recovered and weighed, then compared against the correct charged amount. The evaporator is only one on many places the refrigerant can leak, but is usually the most difficult to find and cannot be found by the inexperienced, or under equipped techncian.
